FamilyOnTheRun

A few more days to go for our 8th grader son to graduate and we are very excited to see him in a graduation cap and gown and receiving that diploma. Since it`s graduation day, giving gifts to graduates will also add to the fun.

we`ve been deciding on what would be the best gift to give on his big day. Of course, we want to give him a gift that will inspire him for the next chapter of his educational life which is entering high school. There are lots of ideas that we came up but narrowed it down to these 4 graduation gift ideas for 8th graders

$100 money wreaths

This one is quite famous and you`ve probably seen this a lot on Pinterest that are been pinned for how many times by users. Yes, they are fun and will look good in pictures but the downside is it will not be a gift that will last for a long time. The money will probably be spent here and there or end up in a bank. But if you still want to give your graduate this gift here is a DIY money wreath by crazylittleprojects http://crazylittleprojects.com/2015/05/money-wreath.html

Learning – SuperSkillsBox

Who wouldn’t love SuperSkillsBox? It`s the gift of learning after all. A long-term college and learning advancement. We think that this will be the best gift to give him, especially that summer break will be a long one. Fun and easy way to boost up his vocabulary skills in just 4 minutes a day. Keeping him entertained and as the same time learning is a double win! Worth the money, isn’t? Want to know more about SuperSkillsBox? Go to www.sueprskillsbox.com for more info 🤓

A really nice watch for the first time

We`ve been thinking about giving him his first nice watch and Seiko is the best fit. Seiko is known to be durable and last for a long time. So why a watch? Well, aside from knowing what time it is. It is also a symbol to remind him of how important managing time is and that every second count. With a good management of time, he can accomplish everything that needs to be done. A very useful skill for the upcoming years.

A memorable trip –  Mexico City!

Sightseeing to another country is so much fun and learning other cultures too. So we thought that we should have a special trip as a gift for graduation but the thing is our son doesn’t like the idea of going sightseeing to another country. He would rather choose to have a family trip to the beach which is not special from our typical family outing.

With all these ideas that we have come up to, we think that superskillsbox match with a Seiko watch will be the best graduation gift for him. Memorable and future-oriented gifts.

Memorial Day is the time we celebrate the men and women who served our country and a special opportunity to spend quality time with the family. Some of us love to go to the beach, a park, go camping and so on.

In our case, we`ve spent the weekend at a hockeyfield – CalCup. It is the largest Field Hockey Tournament in Northern America with more than 160 teams participating and fighting for the prizes.

CalCup a three-day weekend and there are lots of things to look out for. First, it’s a good moment to buy equipment from various vendors that came from all over since field hockey is rare. What to buy? Well, don’t spend too much on junk. From Italian ice to field hockey stick pens …. Look for quality equipment that suits your needs.

There are food stands everywhere. The question is: “to food vendor” or “not to vendor”?!!!

We ended up spending a substantial amount for a family of five and the food options were not as healthy as we would have hoped. So the next day, we decided to leave the field to find a grocery store. Glad we did! Even though we still spent $50 at least we ate healthy and tasty foods.

On the third and last day of the tournament, the kids were still busy in their competitive sports with finals and last games. Our son`s team came in 2nd which was an amazing accomplishment for all.

But not for our son. He believed that they should have been 1st and that they would have been first if he played more and better. Hearing It from him, we sensed that he was disappointed with himself and as parents we took the moment to talk with them about the learnings.

The three-day weekend was so much fun! We brought along with us our travel trailer and to what makes this so much fun is we invited our team family to join with us with pop up tents – the more the merrier! We brought chairs, foods and games! It was really a memorable tournament that both kids and parents loved and enjoyed.

Soon our kid will be graduating in middle school and prepping for it will cost some money.
From the graduation cap and gown to the things that needed to be bought, not to mention the gifts, dinner and parties with close friends!

There are so many things to pay that our child will be finishing soon with 8th grade. The cap and gown will cost $25 and they will also be going to a field trip to an amusement park which will cost $40!

Since our child will also be prepping for college, we wanted to buy him his own computer. We wanted a computer that will serve its way until college. We found one but it`ll cost $600, which is not in the budget at the moment ( with all the things we need to prepare for him after graduation) so we have to pass on that for now.

Instead of giving him a computer, we will give him simple gifts and throw a party for him. A simple one of course, with family and close friends. We also planned on having a picnic with the kids to celebrate with a budget of $15!

Yes, we have spent a lot this time and for a budget wise person like us, we won’t be thinking about that this time. For we are very happy and proud –everything is worth it!

We are still excited from the fact that they will be moving on with the next chapter of their education. Time flies so fast isn’t? it’s like reminding us that our kids will soon have to leave us for college. But as a parent, we must face this and let them achieve their goals in life.

So how are you doing with your preparations?
