Rainy Days? No problem! Here are a few of our favorite things to do on a rainy day in Ventura County

No need to get stuck inside the house on rainy days. You can still go out, and as we are Dutch after all, you can do it on a budget … Think for example about visiting libraries or museums with your family? Often libraries will have book readings, art classes or other fun activities that often do not cost anything! It`s fun and educational at the same time.


1.     Museum of Ventura County https://venturamuseum.org/
Located on 100 East Main Street, Ventura. This museum is founded in 1913 and has been preserving and discovering what Ventura County is all about. A family oriented museum that will teach your young ones about our history and what makes us unique. You`ll love how George Stuart an artist and historian, portrayed history with his one-quarter life-size figures.

2.     Seabee Museum https://www.history.navy.mil/
A very good source of education about the history of the Naval Construction Force and the U.S Navy Civil Engineer Corps with its awesome interactive play area for children and historic relics to commemorate all the intelligent men and women of the Seabee Force. This Museum is in Port Hueneme.

3.     Camarillo Public Library http://www.camarillolibrary.org/
Reading books can also be a good way to enjoy yourselves during rainy seasons. The library is home to over 270,000 items including books, DVDs, music CDs and Audio books. They also have hundreds of Ebooks available in their digital library with the use of their library card. Aside from that, their kids' section has a pirate themed area that your kids will surely love.

4.     Grant R. Brimhall Library in Thousand Oaks and Newbury Park Branch http://www.toaks.org/library
A great place to relax and enjoy your book while your kids have fun reading their large collections of books for kids. Especially in the Newbury Park branch that has a huge aquarium in their hallway.

5.     Westlake Village library http://www.colapublib.org/libs/westlake/
What we love about this library is because of their family place that is geared towards parents` involvement in their children’s learning in a very bright, colorful and welcoming space for the family. Equipped with toys, videos, music and other materials for babies, toddlers, and parents. They also have a Parent-Child workshop that features local professionals.

6.     Moorpark City Library http://moorparkca.gov/355/Library
This library is not part of the Ventura County Library System which means you need to obtain a library card for no charge at all. They also have ABC mouse on the library`s computers with more than 3,500 interactive books, educational games, puzzles and other learning activities.

7.     Agoura Hills Library http://www.colapublib.org/libs/agourahills/
They also have a family place and is part of the County of Los Angeles Public Library System. There are over 122,000 books available in this library.

8.     Simi Valley Public Library http://www.simivalleylibrary.org/
This library was selected to participate in a collaboration with the NASA Library Initiative For Teachers and Students to provide patrons with unique STEM literacy sources.

There are lot’s of museums and libraries available around Ventura County and wherever you will go, we are sure that your family will love it. We have picked some 10 spots for your family to enjoy

1.     The Ronald Reagan Presidential Library https://www.reaganfoundation.org/
Located in Simi Valley, the library is one of California`s most beautiful and unique destinations that your family will surely love. Get a chance to climb aboard in the same Air Force One that Pres. Reagan used during his visit to 26 foreign countries and 46 U.S states or experience what is the Oval Office looks like with its replica.  Also, it is a great place to play with your kids, With their newest Interactive! The Exhibit - you`ll be able to know how pop culture has reshaped our technology and how it affects our daily lives. A must try for all kids and of course the kids at heart.

2.     Build-A-Bear workshop http://www.buildabear.com/
They are located at The Oaks Mall in Thousand Oaks and recently opened in Pacific View in Ventura. This is great for your kids, they can select or customize their own bears and put on their selected scents for the bears. They can also stuff the bears with different sounds. Let your kids be creative with their imaginations. Your kids will surely love this.

If you want your young ones to have fun while learning this is the best thing to do with your 0-5 years old. They promote playful parenting which means finding time to set aside everyday pressures and have fun with your little ones. Their age appropriate activities help develop the cognitive, physical and social skills of children as they play. They have a branch in Simi Valley and The Oaks Mall in Thousand Oaks.

Your Family will surely have fun in this place. Have fun in activities such as the dodgeball game or just show off your best freestyle moves. Also, this is a great way to take those calories off J

Your family will surely love this place. There are lots of slides, climbing tubes, foam ball launchers, indoor basketball room, arcade and much more. Even your little ones will surely have a blast in kids world,

They have huge custom-made inflatable jumpers that you and your children can play. They have a family fun events wherein you can play for 3 hours and they will also provide free lemonades and snacks.

Now if you have kids that are older than 5 then Laser Tag is a super fun activity for the entire family. Laser Tag a high-tech cyber cross of hide and seek and tag. It is more than just a game it is an exciting immersive experience that tests individual skills as well as team dynamics. The gym provides activities that your 0 – 13 will surely have fun such as zip lines, full sized trampolines, rope wall, slide, swings, monkey bars and so much more. They also have arts and crafts area.
